Hackney Wick lie's to the North East of the City between South Hackney, Bow and Stratford, and adjacent to the River Lee and Hertford Union Canal. The area has long been a variable mix of industrial warehousing and commercial business. Many buildings are home to artistic collectives and creative industry with the area more recently being recognised as having one of the highest density of fine artists, designers and makers in Europe. Future development includes the improvement in capacity of Hackney Wick station and the addition of surrounding retail and leisure space led by the London Legacy Development Corporation. As well as significant volumes of new housing and over 800,000 ft of new commercial space which has now been consented. Other notable changes will include walkways and bridges linking the various enclaves of the Wick, Fish Island & Wick Lane and Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park.
