The yard fronts onto Stevenson Road and is in an area associated with scrap yards and waste management uses as well as open storage and general industrial use. Close to the property there are several waste transfer stations, a steel works and a former tyre recycling depot. This site has a lengthy frontage to Stevenson Road and is mainly level at the front, although the gradient within the site rises towards the western boundary. There is a surface mounted weighbridge within this area and most of the site is concreted. We estimate that approximately 0.512 hectares (1.265 acres) has been surfaced, there are parts of the site that are still unsurfaced. Silt traps and drainage interceptors have been inserted to allow separation of oil and water before discharging to the former mill race.
Within the site there is also the main incoming electricity supply with sub-station and a Yorkshire Electricity/Northern Power Grid sub-station.
The boundary walls are in brick to the front, breezeblock to the adjoining yard to the south and south west of the site and Palisade fencing to the west and north.
