Five miles east of central London and north of the River Thames, Newham is home to most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium.
Originally formed from the combination of East and West Ham, Newham also includes North Woolwich as well as an area west of the River Roding.
Although Newham has faced challenges in its past and large scale destruction due to the bombing in World War II, today it is a borough of huge transformation. The Olympic 2012 site itself is an area for regeneration and includes the creation of new homes and business centres. Those looking for commercial property in Newham would be well advised to stay up to date with such development schemes as the result is likely to provide opportunities for shops to rent in Newham, offices to let in Newham and warehouses to buy in Newham.
Densely populated with a lively local scene, High Street North, East Ham and Green Street have a strong Asian influence. The area is culturally diverse and local markets and specialist shops offer unique food and goods that are hard to find elsewhere.
Canning Town which also forms part of Newham is experiencing regeneration and large-scale changes are taking place in the Excel Centre and Royal Docks.
